QX3 Intel Play Computer Microscope

For the young scientist and the curious-at-heart, Mattel (the toy maker) and Intel (maker of computer chips) have joined their resources to bring you the QX3 Intel Play Computer Microscope. Hooking up directly to your computer, this microscope magnifies images up to 200x. All images are sent directly to your computer screen. Below you will find a list of links about the QX3, including information about enhancing performance and using the QX3 with your regular microscope.

Junior Academy of Science of St. Louis

The Academy of Science of St. Louis sponsors this program to encourage students to explore the worlds of science, engineering and technology as they consider future careers. The Junior Academy of Science reaches across the St. Louis region to include Jefferson County. As a member, here are some of the benefits that students grades 6 through 12 can look forward to: scientific field trips and tours, science contests with cash prizes, opportunities to volunteer at local events such as the Great Balloon Race, and access to the Academy computer network to communicate with scientists, students and teachers. The Academy of Science of St. Louis is open to anyone interested in understanding more about science and the role science plays in our lives. Membership support expands the reach of the Junior Academy and provides Academy programs that make science and technology meaningful to all.

The following are several of the programs offered by the Academy...

Speakers for Science: More than 600 professional scientists, medical specialists, science educators and engineers serve as volunteer speakers. They are willing to meet with students, youth, adult and civic groups.
Science Seminar Series: Five lectures attract adults and secondary school students to learn more about topical issues in science; co-sponsored by the St. Louis Zoo.
Science Website: A state-of-the-art science education internet resource for teachers, students and the general public. Academy of Science of St. Louis.

Mizzou Magic:
Mizzou Magic magazine is published twice a year by the Department of Publications and Alumni Communication at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Target audience is middle school and junior high school students. Its goal is to keep science alive. Teacher guides (current and archival) can be found on the internet at Mizzou Magic. The teacher guides are suggested activities, labs and investigations for further studies into the topics presented in each issue. Outside In:
Outside In is a quarterly publication for pre-teens and teens. It is included with the Missouri Conservationist magazine published by the Missouri Department of Conservation. It is available on line at Just for Kids. To subscribe to the magazine send an email to: Circulation Dept. The subscription is FREE to Missouri residents and includes the quarterly publication, Outside In.
