MASTODON ART/SCIENCE REGIONAL FAIR PRESS RELEASE

Registration Opens for 2008 Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair
Free online registration available.
Registration for the 2008 Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair (MASRF) will begin on January 2nd, 2008 and run through February 11th at midnight. 2007 marked the first year where students outside of Jefferson county were invited to participate in the Mastodon Fair which is an International Science and Engineering affiliated Fair. The new counties include Washington, Franklin and Crawford. As an affiliated Fair, two students are receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) usually located in the United States. Millions of dollars in scholarships are available ISEF finalists. By entering the 29th annual Fair March 15 -18, 2008, students will compete for over $35,000 in cash, prizes, awards and scholarships! The 2007 Fair was the largest ever and had over 2,200 student projects and over 6,400 visitors!
Teachers, parents or home school teachers can enter one science exhibit (either as an individual or a group) for each 9th -12th grade student. Online registration at www.MASRF.org is free of charge.
Registration by mail is still available, but there will be a $5.00 charge per paper entry. Forms for mailing can be downloaded from the Fair website (www.MASRF.org) or are available by calling the Fair office at Jefferson College at 636-797-3000 x 474. Mailed forms must be completed and postmarked by February 5th. If teachers don’t enter the student’s project, parents are strongly encouraged to do so.
“One message the Fair is trying to get directly to parents this year is that the parents can enter their student’s project if the teacher doesn’t”, said Jill Thomas, Executive Director.

Jeffco Business Network Raises $645 for the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair.
Raffle drawing on December 21, 2006 had one $500 prize winner.
December 29, 2007: Hillsboro, Mo: The Jeffco Business Network (JBN) was the first organization to do a fundraiser for the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair (MASRF) and has raise $645! Members of the networking group donated over $500 in prizes and cash to create the one-winner prize package which now belongs to Stacey Adams from Chesterfield. JBN is a philanthropic organization whose primary purpose is to increase business for each of its members using word-of-mouth referrals and networking techniques. As conscientious members of society, members perform community service hours and the group does one philanthropic activity each quarter. JBN President, Ed Meyer of Steadfast Financial, LLC said, “The JBN group is proud to have the Mastodon Fair benefit from our fourth quarter philanthropy project and hope that other community organizations follow our lead. Giving back to the community is part of what makes Jefferson County a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The drawing was held December 21st, at the normal weekly Thursday meeting at the Blue Owl Restaurant in Kimmswick.
“This outstanding group of business leaders have pooled their resources to help the area school children. This type of fundraising is vital to the longevity of the Fair since our volunteers are busy operating/planning the Fair. We really rely on the community for financial support and JBN is an example of how local organizations can help.”, said Jill Thomas, Executive Director of the Mastodon Fair.
