Art Categories

Mastodon Fair does not restrict the categories or subjects chosen by its art entrants.

Please use great care in selecting the proper category. The category you select on the registration/entry form is the category in which the project will be judged. Changes in category will not be permitted after submission of the registration/entry form.

MASTODON FAIR ART PLACEMENT AND CATEGORIES

PLACEMENT: WALL/TABLE   Each exhibit will need to choose either WALL or TABLE on which their project will be displayed. Changes to WALL/TABLE placement may only be done prior to the online registration closing. To change the placement, log back into the Online Registration and choose "EDIT" on the exhibit then change the WALL/TABLE field to the correct placement. Keep choosing "NEXT" to view the new PDF online registration form. Changing WALL/TABLE placement is not possible when arriving at the Fair as all of the spaces have been pre-marked with the exhibit placement label.

Exhibit Sizes:
Wall - Exhibit must fit within a 2' x 2' space including all matting/framing.
Table - Exhibit must fit within a 2' x 2' space including all matting/framing and cannot exceed 4' in height.
EXCEPTION: Scholarship exhibits may be a maximum of 4' x 4' x 4' and must have this size designated during online registration.

Grades K-8 have only one category "K-8th". Exhibits in these grades are divided into grade level competitions.

Grades 9-12: Select one of the following categories.

  • Drawing (Examples: pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels),
  • Painting (Examples: acrylic, oil, watercolor, tempera),
  • Photography (Any kind of photography or manipulated photography)
  • Digital Art (Art that has been generated using computer software or drawing tablets.)
  • Animation Art (Cartoon art. This art must be unique and not a rendition of copyrighted cartoon characters. 2011 Fair will allow video shorts entries.)
  • 3D Art (Examples: sculptures, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, or any other type of exhibit that cannot be hung flat on the wall.)
