Make and Donate Original Artwork to benefit the Mastodon Fair!

Art Awards

In addition to the awards listed below, awards are given to MASRF donors based on their contribution level. Information on donor awards can be found on our Pledge Form. Also, a Volunteer of the Year award is given to a current MASRF volunteer who has contributed above and beyond the call of duty.

Awards given to Either Art or Science Exhibits

BEST IN SHOW AWARD

The student with the highest scoring exhibit in art or science will receive a limousine ride and lunch at the Art Museum, the Science Center or the Botanical Gardens by June 15th. A parent and sponsoring teacher accompany the student. If the teacher cannot participate, another adult may be substituted, donated by Lillian Mangelsdorf-Hoering and family.

CREATIVITY AWARD

A silver tray is awarded to the science or art project with an outstanding display of creativity

DIRECTOR EMERITUS' CHOICE AWARD

A trophy is awarded to the student with an art or science project.  Selected by the donor, Eva Kirkpatrick.

EARLY BIRD ART AWARD

This award goes to the first entry received in art.

FLYING EAGLE AWARD

A student and/or a team of students will receive a trophy for an outstanding art or science project. Donated by Lillian Mangelsdorf-Hoering and family.

LEONARDO DA VINCI AWARD

A trophy is awarded to a student whose art or science project best demonstrates the relationship between art and science.  Selected by the donor, Judy Gustafson.

LOUISIANA PURCHASE AWARD

A $50 savings bond is awarded to a student for an excellent art or science project, selected by a member of the Louisiana Purchase Chapter, NSDAR.

PRESEVERANCE AWARD

An award and $50-$100 is presented to a student whose project exhibits an exceptional amount of effort.  Selected by donor Bob Gustafson.

RISING SUN AWARD

$25 bonds are awarded to three K-8 students from Sunrise Elementary whose projects show fun in learning, perseverance, and the potential to truly shine.  Selected by donors (Anonymous).  

SPECIAL EFFORT

A glass eagle is presented to a student whose project exhibits exceptional amount of effort.

Awards given to Art Exhibits (or their Teachers):

ART CHALLENGE TROPHY

This is a traveling trophy to the student with the highest scoring art exhibit. If a student wins this prize three times, the student will keep it. Donated by Marilyn King, Ida Kneff, and Joan Kennedy.

ART DIRECTOR'S CHOICE AWARD

$50 savings bonds are awarded to four students, selected by the Art Director.

BEST IMPRESSION AWARDS

$25 checks are awarded to three outstanding art projects that meet the criteria of "best impression."  Donated by Vicki Cummings.

EDWARD JONES ART AWARD

$25 checks are awarded to two outstanding art projects as chosen by the donor, Edward Jones.

ELMER MANGELSDORF MEMORIAL AWARDS

A check is awarded to each of the four highest scoring students whom received a division award. A check will also go to the teacher of that student, donated by Lillian Mangelsdorf-Hoering and family. Prizes: $100, $75, $50, $25.

FLOYD AND LORETTA BOEMLER INCENTIVE AWARDS

$50 checks are awarded to each of three elementary students (three art and three science) with exceptional projects.  Selected by the donors, Floyd and Loretta Boemler.

MARILYN KING INCENTIVE AWARD

A $100 savings bond is awarded to an exceptional art project in Grades K-8.  Donated by Marilyn King.

MASTODON DIVISION AWARDS

Trophies are presented to the highest scoring project in the art division. Divisions: Kindergarten, 1st-2nd Grade, 3-4th Grade, 5-6th Grade, and 7-8th Grade; Grades 9-12 Division Awards are by Category: 3-D, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Digital Painting, Animation Art.

ART SCHOLARSHIP

1st place Scholarship $1,000, 2nd place Scholarship $700, 3rd place Scholarship $500, 4th place Scholarship $200, 5th place Scholarship $100, scholarship is awarded to a 11th or 12th grade student. To claim the prize, the student must be enrolled in an accredited college as a full-time student within the next two years. $2,000 scholarship to one 11th or 12th art or science student. To receive the prize, the student must be enrolled in an accredited college as a full-time student within the next two years.

OUTSTANDING ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

This award goes to an art teacher with students entered in the fair.  The recipient is selected by the Fair Committee.

PRESENTATION AWARD MEDAL

A medallion ribbon is awarded to each of the winners (including teachers) who participates in the Awards Ceremony. 

SAM WYMAN MEMORIAL AWARDS

A $50 savings bond is awarded, by Juanita Wyman in memory of her husband Sam, to an outstanding 7-8th grade project.
