2012 Mastodon Fair Theme:
Energy

While your project can be about any subject, we are encouraging students to create art or science projects that deal with energy issues/experiments or focus on sustainability concepts. These projects will be eligible to win additional prizes including iPod's, trips and more! Project ideas could range from drawn or photographic posters that encourage energy conservation to art made from recycled materials to experiments that track, reduce or invent energy sources.

Reminders and changes for 2012 Mastodon Fair,
March 13 - 17, 2012 at Jefferson College Hillsboro:

1. For all high school entries, ISEF paperwork must be sent to the Science Director by Dec. 1st. Please mail all paperwork to:

   To arrange a pick up of the forms instead of mailing, please email the request to ScienceDirector@mastodonfair.org
2. Any art or science project that is about energy or sustainability will be eligible to win an IPod for BOTH the student and sponsoring adult. 9th - 12th graders would ALSO be eligible for the $2,000+ trip to New York in June to compete in the Genius Art & Science Olympiad.
3. Students 5th grade and up may NOT submit a science project that is consumer product testing (i.e. which battery lasts the longest, which detergent is the best, etc.). 5th - 12 grade projects that are consumer product testing projects may be disqualified from all awards.
4. For the first time in 33 years, there will be a registration fee of $10 per project for the 2012 Mastodon Fair. There are three options to cover the required registration fee per exhibit:
   1. Pay $10 by March 1 via mail, online or upon arrival at the Fair.
   2. Volunteer for 4 hours ( if 16 years of age or older) or have another adult volunteer in the student's name - anytime between now and April 30th.
   3. Apply for a limited number of scholarships for free registration.
   All funds received from registration fees will be held in the Endowment fund to foster sustainability for the Mastodon Fair.
   
   Schools can pay through one check made payable to "Mastodon Fair" or via a PO by March 1. Students can also pay individually upon arrival - noting this will take a bit longer for check-in. Advance paid students/schools will check in faster.
5. To better serve you, the Mastodon Fair now has a cell phone 314-529-1329 as well as a new phone extension at the Jefferson College office 636-797-3000 x3474.
6. The Fair has a lot of "NEW" this year:

     • Slogan: Encouraging the art in science and the science in art.
       
     • Mission: Promoting art and science education through competitive events.

     • Most importantly, we have a new business plan and would like to have your input. If you would like to help form the future of the Mastodon Fair by either helping finalize the business plan or be on the Fair Board (the group that runs the operational side of the actual fair week.)

Mastodon Fair is the largest combined art and science fair in the nation. The mission of the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair is to hold a prestigious annual fair that promotes excellence in art and science for area K-12 students in public, private and home schools.
